EPITOME
EPITOME documents a progressive obsession with football images from 2002 to 2004. The works are based on vintage college football magazines. I am interested in how approaches to athletic photography evolve from the 1950s focus on portraiture into the action poses of the 1960s/1970s with the influence of television.
Another compelling aspect is the racial awareness of the 1970s as indicated with my subset works titled MOST COMPLETE-MOST INFORMATIVE. Racial dichotomy is underscored by the deliberate BLACK and WHITE player pairs.
EPITOME also encompasses boyhood ideals of hero worship and how these specific forms of popular media construct American masculinity.
